Interior Design Projects

Formwerk has been planning and constructing all European stores for international brand FOSSIL since 2006 and has completed roll-out of over 80 in total. The various concepts over the past ten years range from the flagship store on London’s Oxford Street to the outlet centre in Italy. Close cooperation with the FOSSIL designers has yielded new and innovative solutions and created inspiring shop designs.

The bright, inviting design of the new stores highlights the collection and offers lots of variability for their presentation. In this way, Fossil is making another bold statement: “away from vintage and on toward the premium segment”.

Over the last ten years, Formwerk has planned and completed over 120 stores in the DACH region for cosmetics brand THE BODY SHOP. From the flagship store on Tauentzienstraße to the small shop in the pedestrian zone, we have collaborated with the brand to complete roll-outs and continue developing the shop concept over the years. The bright design creates a backdrop for the colourful product range and the strong visual merchandising that epitomises THE BODY SHOP.

The flagship store in Berlin especially allows customers to enjoy a full brand experience at advice desks, in test areas and at personalisation stations.

The Danish lifestyle brand SKAGEN created a new design for the opening of its flagship stores in Paris, Copenhagen and Frankfurt. The minimalist Scandinavian style and the use of oak and Danish designer furniture clearly reflect the brand’s origins. The new design is primarily communicated in the aesthetics of the products, adopting a gallery style to showcase the watches, jewellery and handbags. Innovative technology, video projections on the walls and a personalisation studio in the showroom offer customers the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the SKAGEN brand in an entirely new setting.

The 11TEAMSPORTS flagship store in Berlin-Charlottenburg opened in 2014 and is one of the five stationary outlets by Germany’s biggest online football shop.

Spread over two floors and approx. 1,400 m² of retail space, the four leading sportswear brands have been brought together in one innovative store concept. It’s not just football fans who love the special features like the 2 vs 2 court or the Nike football trial area that offer an exciting shopping experience. The store blends sporting pursuits and high-tech interactivity to produce a creatively sophisticated sports universe.

WATCH STATION INTERNATIONAL is synonymous with timepieces by various premium brands and is globally represented in various shopping centres and outlets.

Formwerk has supported the brand’s expansion since 2011 and has already constructed over twenty locations in Europe. From the drafts and execution planning to construction itself, we are already working with the brand on the opening of new stores.

The design remains simple and clear, with flexible watch and jewellery cabinets, illuminated artwork and an open style.

Tailored and designed to suit the needs and wishes of the German Internet pioneers, the premises for the young company extend over three floors, creating individual rooms with ideal conditions for productive work. The almost 2,500 m² of redesigned office space on Torstraße in Berlin offer staff even better working conditions that suit their specific requirements, while showcasing the company’s identity at the same time.

PLISTA is synonymous with transparent and friendly team communication. So communication zones for communal use were set up on all floors, in addition to the clearly structured offices with highly practical furnishings.

Formwerk managed the early phase of rolling out the MICHAEL KORS brand in the DACH region and put the planning for the German stores into practice. Cooperating closely with the client, the worldwide design and brand message were realised and enhanced for the German-speaking market.

MICHAEL KORS stands for exclusive design with high-quality materials such as marble, premium steel and white, high-gloss surfaces. Stores in Hamburg, Leipzig, Frankfurt and Cologne were developed together with the in-house architects and the plans implemented on streets lined with listed buildings and in centre locations.

Concept Development

We develop a broad variety of design concepts in the field of interior design and work with our clients to create individual spaces for their brands or businesses. We are committed to designing spaces in such a way that they serve the requirements of their users and function intuitively, and we have a real passion for fashioning architecturally sophisticated details.

We gladly accept the varied requirements of retail, catering and office projects as a challenge, guiding our clients from the nascent days of a project through to actual construction planning.

Architecture Projects

Tauentzien 18, Berlin

Conversion and refurbishment of around 2,050 m² within a commercial property in a premium location on Tauentzienstraße, Berlin. Small commercial spaces and a new development were fitted out to create a spacious flagship store for a fashion label. Ceiling apertures link spaces across multiple floors, and tailored steel stairs and escalators open up and showcase the shop areas. Formwerk coordinated modernisation of the building technology and fire safety facilities, provided advice for adjustments to the outward appearance, defined the interfaces to tenant fit-out and coordinated handover to the tenant in all stages of the project as architect and project manager.

Garden House Bürgerheimstraße

Design, planning and implementation of an innovative, six-floor residential building in a wooden and reinforced concrete mixed construction to complement a typical Berlin block structure. The use of reinforced concrete for the ancillary rooms, as well as development and laminated timber for the living area, is extensive and reflects good exposed surface quality. The floorplan organisation and supporting structure enable flexible room arrangement from a conventional four-room apartment to a loft style.

All apartments are barrier-free. Construction is scheduled to begin in late-summer 2017. Formwerk is supervising all performance phases and project management.

Holstenstraße, Kiel

Formwerk restored and fitted out the shell of a building on Holstenstraße pedestrian zone in Kiel on behalf of Aachener Grundvermögen.

A comprehensive fire safety upgrade and installation of a fire alarm system were carried out to prepare for tenant fit-out on behalf of the Bestseller Group; the flat roof was also refurbished completely. All main and ancillary rooms were restored, sanitary systems installed and shell work completed. The new facade system was produced hand-in-hand with the tenant, ONLY.

Tauentzien 14, Berlin

The 500 m² office space on Tauentzienstraße was designed and fitted out for our architectural office. The high-quality and architecturally striking
facade is beautifully reflected in forms and materials in the office floor plan with open co-working spaces, a sociable lounge area and well-lit offices. Transparency and communication are our maxim, and are also reflected in our office – just like our Berlin roots. Our conference room features an old table from the demolished Palace of the Republic, and the floor-to- ceiling windows in the lounge offers the best view of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The design is clear and focussed, allowing all kinds of flexible uses.
